The International Journal of High School Biology (IJHSB) is a global, student-centered and non-profit biology journal. We offer high school and undergraduate students a free, peer-reviewed space to share their work, experience real scientific publishing, and see themselves as part of the scientific community.
Our Vision
Our vision is to make authentic scientific publishing accessible to every curious student, regardless of where they live or what their background is.
We want a world where high school and undergraduate students are not just reading about science, but actively shaping it—writing, questioning, discovering, and contributing to the global conversation in biology.
Our Mission
Our mission is to:
- Provide a free, online, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to high school and undergraduate biology.
- Guide young authors through the full publishing journey — from first draft to peer review to final publication.
- Foster scientific rigor with kindness, giving constructive, educational feedback instead of gatekeeping.
- Build a global, inclusive community of students, mentors, and educators who care about biology and science literacy.
- Lower the barriers to scientific participation so that talent, curiosity, and effort matter more than money or geography.

As a small but growing initiative, we also celebrate student milestones in tangible ways. For example, we are gifting a microscope to the first author who publishes their very first paper with IJHSB in our 2026 issue—because we believe that science should be something you can literally hold in your hands.
Our Values
At IJHSB, we are guided by a few simple but important values:
- Accessibility & Equity – No submission or publication fees. We aim to keep opportunities open to students from all backgrounds.
- Student-Centered – IJHSB exists first and foremost for high school and undergraduate students.
- Rigor with Empathy – We care about good science, but we also care about the people learning to do it.
- Global Community – We welcome students, mentors, and volunteers from around the world.
- Transparency & Non-Profit Spirit – Our long-term goal is to reinvest resources back into students and their growth.
Our Non-Profit & Scholarship Vision
IJHSB is built with a non-profit vision. We do not exist to generate profit; we exist to create opportunities.
As the journal grows, we plan to use upcoming advertising revenue and external support to establish an IJHSB Scholarship Fund and support team.

Our goal is to direct these funds toward:
- Supporting students in their research projects,
- Helping with equipment or resources where possible,
- Enabling participation in academic or scientific opportunities they might not otherwise afford.
Powered by Volunteers – Join Us
IJHSB is powered by a small, dedicated group of volunteers—and we are looking for more people who share this vision.
We welcome volunteers who are interested in:
- Editorial work & peer support for young authors
- Outreach & communications with schools, clubs, and organizations
- Design, web, and creative work to help us tell our story
- Mentorship & guidance for students who are writing their first scientific manuscript
If you are passionate about education, biology, or youth empowerment, we would love to hear from you. Together, we can build a space where young scientists feel seen, supported, and inspired.
